Is Buy Now, Wear Now the New Normal?

The first two days of New York Fashion Week have not been quite as buzzy as we’re used to from past seasons.  This is the year of change for sure.  Rather than starting the fashion week with a bang, the heavy hitters of NYFW are sprinkled throughout the week.  I can’t wait for Carmen Marc Valvo (Sun. 9/11), Jeremy Scott (Mon. 9/12), and Marchesa (Wed. 9/14).

The pre-cursor to fashion month was Tom Ford’s “anti-fashion show system”-fashion show on Wednesday night, and Anna Wintour’s gala for Hillary Clinton Thursday night.  Always the innovator, Tom Ford has shared his thoughts about the archaic timeline of the fashion cycle.  His idea of showing, and selling fall 2016 ready-to-wear (in season) is just one example of his visionary ideas.

As a retailer, I can understand how this puts a strain on the way retail will be effected if more designers take this approach.  But as a consumer, I don’t want to wait six months to buy a piece I saw float down the runway.  We all enjoy instant gratification.

On another note, shout out to Massachusetts native, and model Leila Goldkuhl, for walking in Tom Ford’s live streamed show Wednesday night.  From student, to America’s Next Top Model finalist, to major runway model.  It’s great to see a fellow MA native’s career really going places.
