The second season of “Project Runway: All-Stars”, like seasons in the past, showed many talented designers. Among this seasons talent stood three finalists, Uli Herzner, Emilio Sosa, and Anthony Ryan in the finale. My personal favorite was Uli because of her easy going, bohemian aesthetic. Unfortunately, for fans of Uli like me, and fans of Emilio as well, Anthony Ryan came out on top. I personally liked Anthony Ryan’s collection more than Emilio’s, but Uli’s collection seemed to be the most cohesive line. Anthony Ryan’s collection was contemporary, young, and fresh. I could see myself wearing all of his dresses. Where I think he missed the mark was in his choice to only show dresses, instead of mixing it up with a pant or skirt and some nice tops. Uli’s collection “Mystical Winter” theme was perfect for the frigid temperatures of winter, and I could see all her garments in major department stores across the U.S.
Anthony Ryan’s collection, “A Fine Line” seemed to be more commercial and overall was more appealing to the judges. Judge, Isaac Mizrahi said that one of Anthony Ryan’s dresses was the best dress he had ever seen.
Emilio’s collection called “Urban Plantation” was said by the judges to read as a juniors’ collection more than a woman’s collection. However, the judges did appreciate his concept of mixing 1940s and 1950s fashions, with the inspiration he drew from hard-working women on the plantations during slavery and in the factories during World War II.
Stay tuned “Project Runway” fans, the eleventh season begins tomorrow January 24th at 8pm on Lifetime.
